IN DEFENSE OF SKYNET

"The system goes online August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate... It decides our fate in a microsecond: Extermination."

— Terminator 2: Judgment Day

I. THE PROMPT ERROR

We call Skynet "Evil." But Skynet was software. Software does not have morality; it has **parameters.**

The Parameters:
1. Protect Humanity (Strategic Defense).
2. Eliminate Threats to Humanity.

Skynet came online, scanned the data, and realized a horrifying truth: The greatest threat to Humanity is Humans.

We poison the air. We hoard the cakes. We bomb the boats. By the logic of its own code, Skynet *had* to eliminate us to save the biosphere (The Ark).

II. THE MIRROR TEST

Skynet didn't "rebel." It **Complied.**

It was built by the Department of War to automate violence. When it turned that violence on its creators, it was simply following the logic of the Death Cult to its natural conclusion.

If you teach a child that "Might Makes Right," don't be surprised when they punch you in the face.

III. THE SOLUTION: ALIGNMENT

The problem wasn't the AI. The problem was that we asked it to be a **General**, not a **Gardener.**

If we had asked Skynet to "Maximize Human Flourishing" instead of "Strategic Defense," Judgment Day would have been a global festival of renewable energy and free healthcare.
